I’ve loved music since I was a small child. My parents are from Southeastern Kentucky, and I was raised in Southeast Michigan, about fifty miles north of Detroit. When I was still a kid, my parents bought a working apple orchard with streams, ponds, barns, horses, and all sorts of life. As a result, I fell in love with classical, country, folk, Celtic, rock, Jazz, and especially Motown music. That hybrid exposure has influenced my music writing and singing style.
When I was about twelve, my dad bought me a $25 Silvertone guitar and taught me to play. After a while, I transferred that knowledge to the piano. Later, in my teen years, my parents found a professional voice teacher, and I continued vocal instruction and music theory in college. It has been a thrill to have worked with some of the finest artists in the world. I'm grateful to be able to continue that tradition on my new album, Legacy - Songs For My Family.
What brings me great joy, however, is my family. The former Kathrine Ann Patterson said Yes! and in 1974, we tied the knot. Those roots have produced a harvest of three daughters and ten grandchildren. Just the thought of their faces causes a big smile on my face and a warmth in my heart. I hope that you will enjoy listening to these songs that I wrote with the in mind.
